Okay... since I'm going to be one of your new students in September, 2013, I wanted to keep a journal of my experience. I think it will be fun and I hope people aren't bored. I'll try and make it interesting, truthful and fun!! This is August 21, and very soon I will be sitting with other students trying to learn to play this beautiful instrument.
It is my goal to play the guitar, strum and pick out a tune and sing and/or hum and/or play my harmonica. Yea, yea, yea, I hear you. That's a big goal. I'm 61 years young and life starts each new day I'm still alive. Thank God for Grace and the fact I still have all my fingers! Thank God I can still type and with Grace I will be able to wrap my fingers around the neck of this beautiful instrument and allow it to come to life.
It's my choice. Either I allow this beautiful instrument to sit in the corner by its lonesome, longing for life OR I do the work. Yes, I realize there's going to be some discomfort. My fingers are not used to these steel strings! I will listen to my body (just like my water aerobics' teacher says) and when my fingers hurt, I'll stop but NOT FOR LONG!! LOL
I am grateful for so many things. I'm grateful I met Bob and with his patience and strength of character I'll be able to achieve what God wants in my life. I've been writing for years and want to incorporate playing an instrument and singing with what I believe is inspirational for others.
I cannot forget my partner and the love of my life, Edward (my husband). He's being very supportive and even helping me out! He needs to take guitar lessons!!!
I've had a very interesting life up to this point. Let's see what happens next! So... until the next entry, I will say, "Have a blessed day."
Very good, Teresa. I really enjoyed this.. and I hope you will be the spark that causes many other students of mine to read your thoughts and also to share their own on here. Thanks for sharing, Bob =)
Yes, I'm practicing the first five frets! Trying my best not to look but allowing my fingers to "remember" where they belong. I want to pick and strum so badly!!! I also want to learn to play correctly so I'm following the steps.
It's easy for me to beat on my guitar like a drum!!
The Guitar TAB lesson that Teresa is referring to is found (at this time) on my GuiTarHeel home page. I may be moving, or copying, it to the "Guitar Guru" page.. which is the page that is dedicated for teaching or sharing lessons. Ok- Thanks Bob =)
Okay, our first guitar class was Monday. There were a lot of people there. Bob had some helpers too. That's GREAT! I hope that everyone practices because our teacher expects a lot out of us.
It's my goal to be able to sing along with my guitar and do some story telling. I started using a pick to fret the notes and it's easier with my fingers BUT I get a better tone when I use the pick. Hey, I want to learn and MASTER each new lesson. I can't wait to play along with others. That'll be awesome! Thank you Bob for being patient with us and also realizing if we want to play the guitar we have to do the work!! I LOVE doing the scales!!!
Hey ! Thanks for visiting my GUITAR page & I hope you will leave a comment. This page is for my guitar students and anyone else who is desiring to learn more about playing guitar. I'd love to have your ideas, suggestions, advice, even your gripes or complaints. Just please be nice! Thanks a lot ! =)
